The village of L'Étang-du-Nord is located in Magdalen Islands, on the island of Cap-aux-Meules. In and around this village you will find many birding sites. Ornithologists will have a good view of the different species that inhabit this region.
The area north of the village, "the site of the Coast", focuses shops and tourist attractions. You will come across the sculpture of 7 fishermen pulling together on a rope. At Cap Hérissé, you will see the lighthouse of L'Étang-du-Nord surrounded by eroded red cliffs. The church of St-Pierre-de-Lavernière is the second-largest wooden church in North America. Built with sinking wood, it has been rebuilt several and is now listed as a historical monument. The fishing port of L'Étang-du-Nord is a nice place to find restaurants, cafes, tea rooms, fish shop, hiking trails along the cliffs and departure platforms for visits to caves in zodiac. A 9-hole golf course is nearby. "Safe from the storm" is the only microbrewery in the archipelago and boasts of growing all their ingredients locally.
Three events take place every year and attract many visitors: the Literary Festival of the Islands, the Painting Symposium, and Music at Sunset on the site of the Coast where musicians from here and elsewhere accompany this moment of the day in a setting of sea, sky, cliffs in changing colours.
The scenic road of Gros-Cap Road opens on the Baie de Plaisance. A little further, Gros-Cap Park is spectacular with its cliffs and caves with impressive sculptures.
After beautiful days in front of so much natural beauty and sea air, it's time to rest in your chalet to leave again the next day.
