The municipality of St-Alexis-des-Monts, nestled in the hollow of the mountains, is the largest rural municipality not only in the Mauricie region, but also in Quebec. At one hour forty-five minutes from Montreal, you will find yourself in a beautiful place of lakes and mountains, perfect to reconnect with nature. Stay in a comfortable chalet to enjoy the beauty of the region.
St-Alexis-des-Monts has more than 600 lakes and this makes it the capital of brook trout. The majestic Lake Sacacomie is a freshwater lake that stretches 42 km on which you can paddle, canoe, kayak or even a rabaska excursion through its small islands. Whether you are an amateur or a fishing enthusiast, you will find at the end of your hook either speckled trout, rainbow trout, brook trout or landlocked salmon. Nearby, enjoy nature for snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, skating, and even hydrasis! Another must-see is the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve with, among other things, two magnificent sites, the Six Falls and the Maubèche Falls. Hunting (small game, bear, moose) and fishing activities, as well as hiking, biking and snowmobiling are regularly practised in this incredible natural setting. Every year, at Lac St-Alexis in the heart of the village, there is a Festival of brook trout where you can fish without a licence and win prizes if you come across a tagged trout! A family activity to introduce children to fishing in a festive atmosphere, shows and fireworks!
With so many activities on the lakes and mountains in a region as beautiful as the Mauricie, it is not surprising to find many cottages for rent for memorable holidays.
